Test and tag appliances

The current Australian standard, AS/NZS 3760:2010 specifies the test and tag required to be conducted by technicians in order to confirm the electrical safety of portable electrical appliances. Our technicians use a sophisticated PAT and thermal printer to test and tag your electrical appliances and print tags on site.

RCD Testing/ Electrical Safety Switches

The new AS/NZS 3000:2018 wiring rules specifies significant clarifications to the protection requirements of RCDs. Our team of Electricians can design, construct and verify the electrical installations in your building to ensure compliancy and that there is no danger to the occupants and equipment.

Infra-red Thermal Scanning

When parts of your electrical systems begin to have problems, they give off heat which is usually a sign of electrical resistance or excessive friction. Our thermal scanning service helps to identify equipment flaws and pinpoint any hot spots not visible to the naked eye, through this infra-red technology.

Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and battery maintenance

We service and maintain your UPS, ensuring it is in peak performance in accordance with the manufacturer’s specification and requirements. We also check your battery condition during your UPS maintenance and replace batteries on site.

Exit and Emergency Lighting

When it comes to emergencies and the need for occupants to evacuate a building safely, we can provide a comprehensive site risk assessment and recommend the correct placement for exit and emergency lighting. Furthermore, we can develop and deploy all the required assets to implement your building’s evacuation plan.

Lighting services

The lighting of any property can hugely influence personal well-being and health, motivation and performance. What has to be taken into consideration when it comes to commercial lighting is not just the aesthetics of how the lighting is incorporated into the building, but the impact it has on the workers and in turn the business. We can:
  • Fit-out
  • Refurbish & upgrade lighting systems
  • Replace & clean lamps, upgrade to LED lighting

Energy Management and BMS

BMS and controls are an essential requirement in modern buildings. We can provide systems to improve visibility over the performance of your assets to deliver improved comfort and energy efficiency.
  • Energy usage analysis
  • Lighting Control – Automated Lighting, Sensors, Movement Detection
  • HVAC Wiring and controls

Switchboard and Metering Alterations

We can design, upgrade or install commercial switchboard and metering solutions. The safety of our business is priority as there are many dangerous and costly hazards that may become apparent when overloading a commercial switchboard. We can identify possible faults, temperature changes and abnormal activity within your switchboard.

Power Factor Correction (PFC)

Power quality is critical to efficient operation of equipment and a contributing element to power quality is power factor. PFC aims to improve the power factor. Our PFC equipment maintenance includes checking that the system is operating at optimum performance levels. We check the following:
  • Electricity load reduction
  • Voltage levels
  • Harmonic content
  • Detailed equipment condition
  • Full functional operation

Earthing Systems

We test installations of earthing systems in accordance with AS/NZS 3000 regulations.

Energy efficiency upgrades - LED Lighting Upgrades and Building optimiSation

We work with clients to develop a strong business case for energy efficient upgrades, by considering the client’s existing energy usage, business operations and building profile. This may include LED lighting upgrade, Power Factor Correction, HVAC equipment and controls optimisation, or solar PV systems.

Diesel Generators

Diesel generator sets – used for either prime or backup (emergency) power – must be regularly maintained to ensure they provide quality power throughout their service life. Our maintenance includes checking that the system is operating at optimum performance levels. We check the following:
  • Timely removal of worn out parts or upgrading the components
  • Checking fluid levels
  • Battery inspection and cleaning of connections
  • Load bank testing
  • Verifying control panel readings and indicators
  • Changing fuel and air filters

Electrical & BMS Services FAQs

BMS

BMS stands for Building Management Systems.

Many commercial buildings have efficient and reliable BMS because of its benefits. These include optimised maintenance, optimised energy, building security and lighting, optimised plant and equipment life, & comfort of occupants.

We have Easy IO, Honeywell, Innotech Controls and various other applications for your unique needs and requirements.

With the convergence of IT and OT (Operational Technology), there are billions of connected devices out there. In the past, they had different layers of controls, which could be clunky to integrate. But now, we can converge all of these disparate technologies into one system. The ability to take data and insight straight from a device to the cloud allows you to conduct analysis, run algorithms and routines, and work out how best to utilise data to implement change or drive desired outcomes. All of this new technology can increase visibility over your assets, boost efficiencies, maximise savings and consolidate OT security. Absolutely! Doing so lowers the risks of accidents and unexpected casualties. AS 2293 covers the system design, installation and operation, and routine service and maintenance of emergency lighting and exit signs for buildings. The best practice is to ensure your system is installed fully to the requirements of AS 2293 and has been certified with an installation certificate relevant to the applicable state requirements. Furthermore, ensure all areas of your building have been covered by emergency and exit lights. All installations are required to be maintained by an appropriately licensed contractor every six months. Read our blog on this subject: https://www.gegroup.com.au/emergency-lighting/

Yes – Thermal Imaging is emerging as a top tech for building maintenance. An electrical infrared inspection can stave off electrical failure and find overheated parts in electrical devices and switchboards. Detect hot spots caused by loose electrical connections, unstable loads, overloading on electrical circuits and degrading insulation or wire damage waged by pests. Thermography scanning of the switchboard is a highly effective means of mitigation. Read more on this topic: https://www.gegroup.com.au/thermal-imaging/

The best way to prevent people from coming into contact with electrical hazards at work is to make sure you regularly test your equipment and appliances for damage and faults. The AS/NZS 3760 is the Australian Standard that regulates the test and tag industry; it issues guidelines around ensuring electrically safe workplaces. Our qualified electrician can conduct this service on your site. Read more about Test & Tag: https://www.gegroup.com.au/test-tag/
